About Us
Vroman’s Bookstore is Southern California’s oldest and largest independent bookstore. We have been independently owned since 1894. Serving the Southern California literary community and the Pasadena area specifically, we host over 300 events a year and support local charities with our Vroman’s Gives Back program. At our three locations, we have an extensive selection of books, magazines, gifts, stationery, and fine writing instruments.
In 2008, we received the highest honor a bookstore can be given when we were named Publishers Weekly’s Bookseller of the Year.
This is our blog, where you can come for the latest literary news, recommended reads, author interviews, and much, much more. Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to drop us a line.

Hi, my name is Josh Vroman, and I have been searching for well over a year now and gathering little bits of information about where my family came from. Ironicly << probably not spelled right, the founder for your bookstore is from La Salle, IL. My extended family, great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are from Rock Island, IL which is only 1 hour and 32 mins away. Im thinking that there may be a connection. Sorry I chose this method to get into touch with you, but I figure the more public it is, hopefully the better the response!! You folks have a wonderful day!
Josh
I would like to contact you about the blog, but the email address is still for Patrick. Any chance you’ll update it?
Oh hey, thanks, Amy. I didn’t notice.
And Josh- How cool! I’m glad there’s still some Vromans around.
Dear sir,
Do you have any images of past “4-6 Grade Winners of your Annual Bookmark Contest” ? I would really love to see them if possible.
Please e-mail me the information if you can.
Thank You,
Gerald W.Montier
I just saw your lovely Hemingway display and wanted to express my thanks. I love your bookstore and have stopped in whenever I am in Los Angeles. I will next be there in late April and would like to come in and possibly sign some books informally. Mostly, though, I just wanted to say thank you. Yours sincerely, Paul Hendrickson
Of course, Paul! I will pass along your thanks to our Visual Merchandising Manager- she’s the one responsible for all the magic behind the displays. And thank you for such kind words! Let us know when you’re in town and we’ll have your books ready for you to sign- hope to see you soon!
