Not so much that somebody had dumped a bunch of money in Gary's lap -- I believe him when he says this isn't the first offer -- but that it's HarperStudio who's shelling out the cash. So much for turning publishing on its head. Why allocate seven figures up front for something like this? This seems the height of stupidity. It's like giving an unproven pitcher a 10-year contract.
