Kids' Week 2013- A Week in Review

by Rachel on July 30, 2013

Every year, Vroman's plans Kids' Week– a wonderful week full of free activities for kids of all ages.  This year, we planned a lot of new things and it turned out to be a huge success!  Here's the week in review!

Monday 7/22- Meet the Reptiles with the Los Angeles Zoo
Docents from the Los Angeles Zoo presented Meet the Reptiles, an interactive presentation where they introduced participants to different reptiles, like snakes, turtles, lizards, and alligators.  While these creatures weren't exactly alive anymore, it was a great way to see them close-up.  We could even touch things like snake skin and turtle shells!

Tuesday, July 23- Sunprints with Rachel
I was so excited to teach a sizeable group of very young children how to make Sunprints!  Now, if you've never made a Sunprint,  you're really missing out!  It's a great project because it's inexpensive, they provide a million possibilities, and it's nearly impossible to mess one up!  If you're interested, you can find project ideas and purchase Sunprint paper on the official Sunprints site. You can also purchase the Sunprint paper from the gift shop at our ever-lovely neighbor, the Norton Simon Museum (that's where I found it for Kids' Week!)

Wednesday, July 24
Theatre 360- Creating Character
The award-winning children's theatre, Theatre 360, presented a scene from their recent show, Pinkalicious,  and taught participants about developing characters and improvisation.

Thursday, July 25
Robots & Rockets
We used recycled items to craft awesome robots and there was a huge group of kids!  My favorite part? When a group of 8 year olds asked me what a floppy disk was (I was helping them attach it to their robot).  They were not impressed by my explanation– I don't think they believed me!

Friday, July 26
Summer Scavenger Hunt
We had a hug turn out for our Summer Scavenger Hunt!  Of course, this was the day it just had to rain, but they were all good sports about it and gladly ran around Pasadena collecting items on the list.

Thanks again to everyone who made Kids' Week so successful and popular.

We can't wait to do it again next year!
