by Jessica on October 6, 2017

Yes, tea/coffee and books go hand in hand but what about cocktails and books? Los Angeles plays home to some literary greats that would frequent some of L.A.’s most classic bars. But there’s also some great literary themed bars like the Library Bar downtown. So take a look at this list and pop in to one the next time you’re looking for something new to do!

Library Bar
DTLA
Located right near the historic Los Angeles Central Library, this bar is perfect for book lovers. They have a simple food menu if you need a quick bite but their lit-inspired cocktails and beers are what you need to check out. With cocktails with names like Tequila Mockingbird and The Last Word you can’t go wrong!

Catcher in the Rye
Toluca Lake
Not only is the name based off a great book, they have a “Reading List” of craft cocktails plus a whole list of wine and beer! The list includes such wonderful names as the Huckleberry Finn (Plymouth Gin, St. Germaine, Lime, Blueberry, Mint, Soda) and The Big Bukowski (Buffalo Trace, Lemon, Orange and Angosura Bitters, Sugar, Egg White). Plus, they boast a food menu that runs the gamet from grilled cheese to soups to salads and appetizers. You better believe some of those are literary themed too! Voted Best Bar in Toluca Lake this make sure to put this on your list of musts!

The Wellesbourne
West L.A.
The Wellesbourne is divided into three different spaces, a book-lined library, a lounge with armchairs and a fireplace and a game room (yes! a game room!) with foosball and shuffleboard among others. They even have live music on Wednesday evenings and a food menu that changes seasonally. If you’re an eastsider it’s worth the trek out to the westside for sure! If you’re a westsider, consider yourself lucky for having this gem in your neighborhood.
