Thank you for these kind words. If Vromans or anyone else can help us fund titlepage--on a less expensive and otherwise revised basis--we would be glad to resume. We've been trying for a year now to figure out how to support this project, for which many have expressed admiration--even some people who didn't have to--and at which I was just beginning to show some signs of improvement, perhaps (I've gone on to do a lot more interviews for various events). If anyone has any ideas--better yet,
money--let me know. (I need to make clear that at the moment I'm speaking for myself only, not for my wonderful partners, Lina Matta and Odile Isralson. ) --DM

Your blog brings back memories. I did much the same while I was editing my doctoral dissertation, then deleted the blog with a click and a whimper.

I probably could have finished writing my past-deadline essay on productivity in the time I spent reading that post, but it was worth it.

Carter Beats the Devil is so wonderful that I even brought it on my honeymoon. (Yes, my wife came along, too.) The set piece about the magic show for the president is as amazing to read as it probably would have been to see. It's been one of my favorite moments in a book ever since.

Looking forward to reading the new one.

Though of course this is not the point of the blog entry, I must say that my favorite pictures of cats in sinks are the ones of very large cats in very small sinks.

Terrific. I love the idea of an author having a secret little stash of thoughts on the book in progress. Can't wait to read it!

What a great post! I have been seeing this book everywhere but didn't recognize the author's name. I loved Carter Beats the Devil! Mr. Gold has quite the sense of humor.
