- It’s that time of year again: The Tournament of Books is just around the corner. This year’s field is quite impressive, featuring books from heavyweights Margaret Atwood and Lorrie Moore, as well as newcomers John Wray and Wells Tower. My one gripe: where is Dan Chaon’s Await Your Reply? How do you hold a tournament without the best book? What is this, college football? Anyway, the judging panel is impressive, as well, with C. Max Magee from The Millions, Carolyn Kellogg from Jacket Copy and many other prominent writers and internet types leading the way.
- Regina Nigro nails the Jersey Shore (and the subsequent media outrage about it) at The Awl: “The Jersey Shore cast members define themselves by their ethnicity, participating in a self-validating subculture; people who reject that subculture take pleasure, in Franklin’s (accurate) view, in recognizing how foreign that subculture is to them.” All I know is this summer, I’m doing one thing: GTL. Every day.
- Lastly, check out the incredible comments people left on our “Literary Dealbreakers” post of a few days ago. As always, the readers of this blog are more intelligent and insightful than its author. Well done, people!
